Interesting that you ask...

There was no comment on this play. At that time my style with rolls like this was to try to win and not worry so much about getting G'd with the cube in the center as many players (note the missplay that followed) made cube and checkers errors in these "do we play on or cash situations".
Tardieu is MUCH stronger now than he was then, IMHO and he didn't play this match terribly well, especially near the start. That factored into my excessive caution recubing in the 3rd game with my 4-1 lead, although I honestly felt he had takes and would take.
At that time, my checker play wasn't as strong as I feel it is now. I was overblitzing, and not placing enough attention on getting my back checkers moving and when in doubt just closed homeboard points with my awkward numbers.
This style worked rather well as players played too safely vs 4 and 5 pt homeboards and many weren't good enough to punish awkward positions resulting from failed blitzes. ie...I could just blast away, and not suffer as much consequences when it failed as I would now.
I just opened my somewhat Snowie rolled out copy of this match. I played at a 4.0 and FT at a 7.1. I repeat, he's MUCH stronger now.
