Challenges just beyond my competence

I saw a post on this site where it was mentioned that slotting often plays better than a split with an ace in the opening ...
Very true and you'll get more examples in Nack's next book. Most of the examples I'm thinking of come when tossing a 11 and being on the roof. The first three aces are basically forced, bar/24 6/5(2). Now depending on the rest of the setup [4 checkers on the 8pt, how stacked the acepoint is, if your opponent's back checkers are split] it is more often correct to play 8/7. There are many variables for me to try to sum up without examples so I'll let Nack do that lol.
I’ve played this position on Snowie hundreds of times
These positions I've saved as Play From Here (PFH) files. They are very instructive and I do the same. Play the position out, analyze it with SW, try to cut down on my errors.
I also strongly agree that it's worth completely understanding something rahter than looking at the SW eval in passing and thinking "oh, I got it now!" lol I feel that way with everything I do. You master the basics, you look like a genius in the face of 90% of the competition you run into. The 'competition' in this case would be checker & cube decisions, not your opponents.
