I agree with what you're saying but you can 'rear', as the article put it, a chess grandmaster. They may not end up being a super grandmaster [ELO 2700], which is a non official term, but they'll be quite proficient. It depends on what sport or activity you're talking about. I also believe you can rear a professional tennis player, he may not make it into the top 20 in the world, but if you raise him with tennis, send him to the academies and push it on his life, he'll get reaaaaaal fuckin' good over time, whether he loves it or not. It's the love of the activity that can make someone great, which is why I think you can spot talent.
