Like I said, 6/3*/1 was pretty much my autopilot play. Why?
1) It unstacks 2) It puts White on the bar 3) It gains ground in the race 4) It leaves 11 shots 5) It leaves one blot
The other plays all have their drawbacks; 8/3* leaves a terrible distribution and re-stacks the 6-point, 13/8 doesn't put White on the bar or gain any ground in the race, etc. 10/8 10/7* breaks the 10 point, but I still like it. 6/3*/1 is ok but I prefer to play more purely when plays are this close. I do not prefer to play more purely when it earns you a trip to BK, though.
After 6/3*, compare 3/1 with 13/11. 3/1 reduces shots from 14 to 11 (hint: important) and plays with one blot. 13/11 strips the midpoint (not as important as people thought in the 70s/80s, but it does make a difference in an upcoming exchange of hits), increases shots from 14 to 24 (danger, Will Robinson!), and plays with 2 blots. Yeah, things could go really well if White rolls really poorly, but more likely, the blot on the 11 is just a huge liability for Blue. He's already got the 10 point, the midpoint is already unstacked, so why is he bringing another blot to the 11?
10/7* 13/11 is not as bad as 6/3* 13/11 because it leaves 19 shots instead of 24, and it brings builders into position to make inner board points. The difference is that Blue doesn't have his inner board slotted and has two of White's blots in his inner board, so he can focus exclusively on his inner board with the full roll if he gets missed. It's still blot overkill, though.
