"error compared to XG" compares the move played to the one played by XG 3-ply normal Search interval.
If the player's choice is better than XG 3-ply, then you get an outplay and your PR is reduced.
The idea is that the more you roll positions, the better you get close to the true PR. for instance if both the player and XG 3-ply make the same mistake it is likely that you will never rollout that move and miss the error.
So rather than comparing your PR to the "perfect play", using "error compared to XG" compares you to XG 3-ply PR (which is about 0.47) which is much less dependent of what analyze level you used. in the above example, no matter what analyze level you use for the move you and the bot err, your PR will be unchanged.
Most people did not like that and in XG2 it is turn off by default. I personally use it a lot as for testing new engine it make things much easier.
