To me it seems clear to play 12/6 12/8. It leaves the same number of shots as 12/2, but a difference is that after 12/2 you may not bring in the last checker on the next roll either, hence leaving a 2/36 shot a second time. I can't see that bearoff will be more awkward after 12/8 12/6, so that would be my play.
