It seems to still be the wrong idea. I adjusted your position and tried to find a postition where GNU liked to play 12/2. For all postions i used GNU 4 ply evaluations, off course rollouts would have been better...
A)
You move the spare from the bar point, so that he have to run with sixes, GNU evaluation says that it is the wrong idea to stay back and wait for him. The position just gets to unflexible with all the spares on the same points. Still wrong to play 12/2 by quite a bit.

B)I made one more adjustment, giving white a crunced board: Closer, but still wrong to wait. Wrong by 0.046 wrong on evaluation to stay back.

C) Keept the same postion as A and B, but also moved the spare checker on the blue 2 point back to the 4 point. Now evaluation says that it is close, but still wrong by 0.006.

D) Last modification: Gave blue much better placement of spares. Now it is close, and GNU evaluation likes staing back better by 0.003
