"Senkiewicz lost in the first round of the championship and bought back in; however, when he bought back in he opted not to re-enter the side pool"

There are some interesting things regarding the side pool and buybacks. If you are one who will buy back it cuts into your sidepool equity. That possibility does not exist with the buy back entry though. It therefore seems that one who is in sidepool initially would also want to be in it with a buyback. The buyback sidepool equity is actually over 100% since the pool includes money from those who fordeited their initial chances to it with a buyback.

With regards to Calcutta auction it is a bit of a guessing game who will or won't buyback. If you know someone won't buyback that significantly cuts into how much value you assign that person.

I never participate in the Calcuatta anyways and feel it is a waste of time but go to collect any door prizes. There weren't any at this tournament though and there were only 41 people present for the start of the Calcutta.
