What does 12/2 do? It wastes bearin pips and thus bears off more slowly; leaves a direct shot on 65 next; forces Blue to break the 6 point on 32 next (after White stays put); refuses to put a spare in good position on the 6 point (thus distributing worse in all manner of variations, and thus being much more liable to cracking--not to mention having fewer attacking chances--after White hits immediately); and leaves the straggler vulnerable to further indirect shots on various small numbers.

The benefits of staying back are none that I can see. White isn't even forced to run out with 6x into an outside direct shot. 12/2 is much more dangerous and awkward than the natural 12/6 12/8.

Looks like a Next to me!
