NC progress report?

CJC, Bill Davis, and Stick are all here so there should eventually be some good reporting. The main tournaments don't start until midday today -- only jackpots, doubles, blitzes, etc. yesterday and last night.
There was a lot of buzzard luck going around yesterday. I had my usual experience in the Queen City Cup -- played 3.8 against 9.3 and lost 6-11 (opponent's luck rating was +16.7 for 13 game match).
I know Stick won his first two Queen City Cup matches -- over Howard Markowitz in the second round. Not sure how the Stick did in the third round.
Seems like most of my friends all lost heartbreakers in the Queen City Cup. Petko got blitzed by Markowitz in the first round, 1-11. Petko then re-entered only to draw Bill Robertie -- Petko, however, prevailed. Then he drew a considerably weaker player (often plays Intermediate) and Petko got up 10-0/13 and then never saw another roll. He passed one game, got gammoned on two straight two cubes (10-9/13), cut the loss to two points the next game (10-11/13), and then took/flipped a cube in the next game only to lose.
Alan Grunwald was up 9-8/11 in the first round and appeared to be coasting to a gammon for the match when he got odd bearing off, left a shot, got hit with 4 off, took a cube against the opponent's five point board and lost the game. Then lost a blitz Crawford game.
Gary Bauer got hammered by Jose Farca in his first round match.
Patrick Gibson was on a roll having beaten Perry Gartner and Gregg Cattanach among his three wins on the way to the semis. I know Howard Markowitz and Ed O'Laughlin were playing for another semi spot. Not sure about the others playing for the semis.
As of late last night Jeb Horton told me there were 44 in the Championship and 32 in the Intermediate, so I think it is overall down a bit this year for this tourney. Not many Midwest players, no California players beyond Gibson. Looks like the Midwest Championship will be the first really big tournament this year with Pittsburg 3-4 weeks later.
