possibly schitzophrenia (mild maybe). I didn't know the man, but he was a hero for the defeating Spassky . his political/antisemitic ranting is not consistant with a sane mind. even bigots can mount seemingly lucid arguments for their views --- Fischer's never did. He needed a caretaker/agent to see that he got the help he so desperately needed. The sum of his life was --- he was a chess genius, but completely flubbed the remainder of his life away.

it is sometimes impossible to separate one's great accomplishments from obvious pathology.
