Raving loon?

Hitler was a good artist, but few would remember him for his art. Van Gogh had as many mental problems as anyone, but when you look at a Van Gogh painting, do you think "what a complete raving lunatic of an artist"?
To put just one year of Fischer's accomplishments into perspective: in 1971, he had a streak of 20 consecutive wins in international play, including 13 in the candidates. That would be like going to Monte Carlo and winning every game. Or winning every ABT event of the year. Also in 1971, he won a blitz tournament with a score of 19/22. This was in a field with Tal (in second place with 14.5), Korchnoi, Petrosian, Bronstein, Smyslov, Reshevsky--6 world championship caliber players, including the 3 most recent world champions--and 5 other world class players. No one else has ever reproduced anything like those results in the history of chess.
