GNU 2 ply has my play as a near whopper
Since it's a QF problem I'm sure GNU says to leave the shot, whether or not that's what I'd play OtB we'll never know, but I would consider it. I think I play safe and hope the position cleans itself up rather than volunteer now though for a slightly better distribution. 5/off 5/4 for me
and is seven checkers back too many? Would you stop at say 3 or 4 here?
There are too many factors to answer this as a blanket statement. Was there ever a chance he'd make a second anchor? Where were his blots? If they were ever on the 3, 2, or 1pts obviously I'd be more apt to leave them than hit them. Did you need timing while coming around the board and that's why you scooped them up? When in doubt, hit, even if you can't use a bg and he already has an ace point anchor he'll get those shots anyway, you may only be giving up a few more shots when/if you have to leave a shot if he's still on the bar. Here, for eg, if you leave the shot it's not the normal 11 numbers it would be if he didn't have all the guys on the bar, it's 15 shots. I think 4 extra shots is made up for by the fact that he doesn't get to start building his prime so if you are hit you still have plenty of flex to get around the board.
