I don't suppose by "real world", you include politics, but here goes: in November, the former mayor was elected, ousting a guy who'd beat him by a hair last time. He asked me to serve on the zoning board, which didn't cause me to say what you suggest because he really needed some people for the various boards. So I said I would, but that didn't last--the council overruled him on some procedural ground that I think will set a new precedent if they get away with it. So I was off the board before we even met. This caused me to think of saying what you suggest to all the members of council who voted me (and some other people too) off the island.

Maybe the problem was my new proposed development criterion:

Section 64, 3A2A: ALL NEW SUBDIVISIONS SHALL INCLUDE A 24-7 BACKGAMMON CLUB. NO EXCEPTIONS OR VARIANCES SHALL BE GRANTED.
