what happens on a 55 or 66? It all goes to hell.

66 isn't bad for White. He may crash a little but escape and win anyway. In fact, I would be inclined to pass because of these additional chances for White : he can escape quickly and win easily (with lots of gammons), or, if Blue doesn't close his 3 point, White can attack and escape later.
