Week to week, I have doubts about whether I'm working in the real world. Maybe I can get a reality check.

Merely exclaiming "Shove it!" etc. wouldn't be sufficient. I'd have to yell to wake people up. Is that characteristic of the real workaday world?

I've been all but yelling at one guy on email for weeks, and finally I have what I need. I don't know whether my e-gibes had any effect on his tortoise-like response, but I did take perverse satisfaction in eliciting a "yell"-type sentence from him, all caps. "OK HOW THIS?" when he, a native English speaker, meant "HOW'S THIS?" Hee hee.

No, not the real world here, I don't think. The question is whether I'll be the last misfit left on this island of toys.
