This is an excellent problem. Toggling off autopilot wouldn't have been enough for me to get it right.

Besides Chuck's point (I would have missed the double out from the roof), it isn't obvious to me (other than with the rollout) that the extra gammons are worth the risk of getting hit. Getting hit loses all of the 30%+ gammons which would have been won after the safe play (no gammons at all after hit - D/P). Additional gammons have to be more than (11/36) * safe play gammons (approximately 9%) for this play to work. The player must have a good estimate of safe play gammons to do this calculation. This is too tough for me OTB.
