I like this approach, too. If we're on the 16 point instead of the 18, we can use that point to hold two points (his 13 and 14) in direct-shot range. This will be important in the event that we roll large enough to have to give up the midpoint, but not big enough to pull ahead in the race and just run.

Since I don't care what we do with the rest of the roll, I'd like my vote today to be: 18/16(2), and whatever the largest number of likeminded voters want to do with the other two deuces.
