Gregg's approach is very much what works for me. But sometimes SW will crash or report illegal moves while importing the *.mat file.

The reason for this, and it happened to me occasionally, is when you have unfinished games in the mat file because your opponent rolled and additionally, instead of moving, he resigned in a hopeless situation.

My workaround here: open the match with GnuBG and finish all the resigned games against gnuBG. Then save it to *.sgf AND export the match to *.mat.

Worked for me every time where I had problems with those *.mat imports into SW.
