This is of course a 'next' if you realize the situation you're in. A couple of ppl were unsure so I'm glad I posted it. At this score you're trying to win the game, a gammon has very little value to you, so you should make the normal play that tries to win. It's true a bg is huge for you, but if you ever find yourself making the play that wins the most bgs at the start of a game for that reason, go ahead and smack yourself for me, tyvm.

An opening 54 played two down gives up too much equity for my comfort zone even if the opponent misplays some of the replies. However, if you do find a fish that will split with his responding aces, 21, 41, 51, then I'd say it's clearly correct to play it. I'm amazed at how many open level players still make these errors.
