Backgammon on line for money is against the Law in the U.S.A. The USBGF has been active in lobbying for Backgammon to be considered a game of skill instead of a game of chance, just as Poker is trying to make that case in Washington DC.
It is pretty clear that it is the casino industry that would rather not see on line gambling and they are probably the reason it is illegal, as they want people to do their gambling on their live tables, so talking to them seems to be a great waste of time.
Lastly, the USBGF is an organization of the players that exists to help make the game better for the players and to help grow the game in every way possible. Promoting the gambling aspects of the game is a double-edge sword in that while it may certainly attract more people who like to gamble, it can turn away parents and children and people who are looking for hobbies and games that do not involve gambling. There are literally millions of people playing backgammon on web sites and apps for no money at all who enjoy the game for the pure pleasure of causing others pain by beating them.
From a personal perspective, I have played backgammon both for money and for pure fun for over 50 years, and as much as I enjoy a money game or chouette or a tournament for cash prizes, with the speed of XG and the huge potential for cheating on line, I doubt it will ever be an important part of the game in the future and I hope the USBGF does not expend its energy and resources in that area.
Note that I am not speaking on behalf of the USBGF, just stating what I know of the activity and my own opinions.
PS: If there is anyone who really wants to compete for money on line against me and XG, please let me know and we can arrange a method of payment when you lose.
