Allowing Stick to anchor on the 4 would reduce our gammon chances considerably, so we have to hit with 8-4. Being rehit against Sticks 2 point board does not look too bad, so we should not pick and pass burying a checker on the 2 point. The 2 should be played 6-4, having advantages over all other 2s:

7-5: while maximising cover rolls, it leaves a crucial point, a blot and more return shots.

13-11: only 1 roll more to cover but does not duplicate (both 13 and 15 will hit)

17-5: duplicates (13) but 1 roll less to cover.

So, I vote for the strange lookting 8-4 6-4.
