All you need is the right platitude at the right time! I don't see any reason not to go with a close variant of Pottle's Law ("always run the last back man") and run the backmost back man to safety here.

Other platitudes that work: Playing with only one blot when you can; putting a spare back on the midpoint; and not playing with extra men back when you are ahead in the race.

The hit on the 11 point flunks because it's unlikely to work, and also antipositional--breaking your nice anchor and leaving four blots when you could have played with just one, oik! The inside hit still leaves you stuck with a dilly builder, and a stripped 6. Too unlikely to work, and unnecessary anyway...what is he threatening to do, if you don't stop him?
