Seems to me that the difference is due to the fact that after 13/7 there are a bunch of market losers, while after 6/5 6/1 white will almost surely still have a take the next chance she gets a chance to turn the cube.

The cube decision depends on more than just GWC and gammon rates. Volatility is a big factor, so making a worse but less volatile play may forestall a cube.

I guess I'm with Neil & Dmitriy in thinking it's not much of a paradox. Or maybe it's me that's missing something.
