Thinking in platitudes (Rollout)

There were two I was thinking of:

1) "one man back, attack" which fits with the similar expression "attack 1, prime 2"

2) "if you start a low point then cover it quickly"

Since I have started playing again (after quite a layoff) I have found some of these platitudes quite useful to get me going, especially when playing XG with a 12 second move limit (who has time for a pip count or deep thinking more than a couple of times a game with that restraint?) I'm not anti-clocks BTW, I'll just find it very hard the first time I actually have to play to (with) one OTB.

3) "if in doubt, clout" would fit here too.

All lead to a lovely blunder in the posted position if you haven't looked at the race first.
