When I go to Analyse/Match Equity Table in gnu it shows me the G11 table, so I assume gnubg is using G11 for its rollouts as well?
Then about the variance in Snowie's rollout: According to Snowie's own stats it is ±0,037 for the live cube rollout. I guess this 0.037 corresponds to 1SD, so there is not enough variance to explain Snowie's rollout result as a statistical coincidence.
But then of course you are right about Snowie not playing according to score. I'm still having trouble to see how that could affect the rollout result to make it too good. Perhaps the taker doesn't save his gammon enough? Otoh Snowie wouldn't make the doubler play aggressively enough for the gammon either.
No I think the real reason for Snowie's result is that it thought the initial position was almost a take. That means that after playing on for one roll and doubling then, it would get some bad takes in the rollout. This makes playing on more attractive.
