Well your internet connection in general. I don't think there would be a setting to make the audio and visual go into sync as that would imply there is a setting to make them not in sync. It would be like making a robot wife and having a "nag" switch. Who the hell would use it? But a slow connection could well cause the audio to not sync with the video. Just a guess, but I've had that with a bad Skype connection. I've also seen instances where channels being broadcast are out of sync. If the sound is late you can often get away with 2 or 3 frames but if the sound is early even 1 frame will be noticeable (because of the relative speed of light and sound in our "normal" lives). I suggest contacting your cable company or whoever distributes your HBO to go.
