Yes, you are right, Keene! The straight shot count is necessary and poses a very helpful criterion. Yet, I tend to believe that additional criteria have to be taken into consideration as well, such as score and cube. From White´s perspective, gammons are important. I reckon that the gammon value is about ~0.6. Much higher than Blue´s one. The hitting play will definitely increase both the risk of losing gammons, and the chances of winning single games.

In an unlimited match (money game), I would hit spontaneously with ease.
