I have found it to be a pretty good rule of thumb that when you're blitzing, making an inner-board point takes priority over hitting another checker in the outfield. There are exceptions, of course, and I have a tidy little folder of exceptions on my flash drive, but the most one can expect from a rule of thumb is a robust starting point for further adjustments, and in my experience, this one fulfils that role quite well.

Often, even making a new inner-board point "from scratch" takes priority over an outfield hit, and covering an inner-board blot is usually even more urgent. The swing from getting hit to having your opponent fail to enter is huge.
