The QF play here is 11/2*, ensuring he doesn't make the second anchor. But since that play leaves me with a dead checker if I cover it later with some roll other than an ace (will I make that decision--to cover with a larger number or leave it slotted--correctly? I don't know!) and it also leaves me just a bit overrun, in practice I'm going with the 5 point.

What if the roll were a 31 instead? Then I'd whack the checker on the 2 with the ace, and pick up to the 8 point (3/2* 11/8). That's different because it uses the dilly builder effectively, and also leaves me with an easier position for the next couple of rolls.

(That's a good way to avoid blunders, BTW--arrange it so your rolls are simple to play!)
