I suppose it depends on what comes with the ace and what was rolled in between - status of the gammon race, number of points to clear, number of immediate shot leaving shots. I might leave the point slotted, I might pick up 7/6, and I might play 8/7. I guess that in most cases I am going to make the bar 8/7. It does not look like that will cost many more gammons.
