One of the factors is that down the stretch you are likely to waste pips inside anyway in order to hold the anchor, so any bear-in inefficiency created by making the bar will not matter much.
This does not sound right to me. If we play something like 16/11 now, and there are no hits in next turn or two, we should be able to play with minimal wastage. After that, it seems likely that Dillies will have lifted one or both of their high points.
When that occurs, my plan is to run one checker. I think we can do that anytime after the Dillies break their 6pt. We should hold off, however, until we are finished (or nearly finished) bringing home our other checkers.
By this argument, I am not saying that slotting the 7pt necessarily wrong. I am only questioning the assertion that other plays will inevitably force wastage inside later on.
What makes this position tough is the fragile state the Dillies are in right now. We have a good chance to get a shot when they clear one or both of their stripped points. Unfortunately, we are also very near the cusp of a gammon loss.
