Perhaps the position of the cube determines the right play here (this is of course only the case if the difference between cubeless equities of hitting and priming isn't too big). It seems to me that priming leads to more volatile positions where you cannot use the cube very efficiently. Sometimes the position is too good in one roll. So this argument points to hitting.
It would be very nice to have positions where checkerplays are dependent on the position of the cube. Perhaps in this one 15/7(2) is the better play if we don't have access to the cube. It gives better long term structure, and that's good for winning the game.
