I double in both positions. If it's close in these positions, esp. w/no recube vig & knowning that at best it's a small error, I'd rather double. You need such a small % of passes for it to be correct it's almost always correct.
Is it an actual cube? Where does my doubling window begin? I don't know honestly, I have a better feel for when I should be doubling (like position one even though it may not be a technical cube) than having memorized the exact DP. Let's look at money though:
The Keith count in position #1 gives us 67 for Blue, 62 for White, a bare ND and easy take for money. This clears up the issue of whether or not it's a take, if my opponent's TP is 80% (or more) and it's a take for money, certainly a take here.
In position #2 while each person has rolled only 3 pips the race has become shorter and Blue's 3 pips were a lot more efficient. Using the Keith count again we get Blue with 60, White with 58, redouble and bare take for money. I don't think the Keith count is penalizing enough for the checkers off + crossovers and would be tempted to pass position #2.
The TP I use for -2 -4 in such a gammonless position is 20% for the leader so I'm thinking the leader certainly has a take in the first position. Some ppl use 18.X% I think for the TP, but I agree with 20%.
I'm not sure if I covered everything, but I do feel like I'm rambling, so out-
