Day two report here in Danish: http://www.nordicopen.dk/dailyreport/2008/dailyreport2dk.html
Summary: Lots of excitement, satellites and jackpots, cameramen and journalists. A short welcome speech at 7pm by Gus Hansen, remarks by tournament leader Henrik "Enrique" Bodholdt, public draw for the championship flight, with 154, 152, or 155 players, depending on which report you read -- the worldbackgammonratings.com drawsheet lists 152. Advanced and intermediate flights had 77 players each.
The first match completed in the first round was Reza Jamali (DK), known to be a fast player, versus Karl Frogner (NO). Jamali won. Giant Sander Lylloff (DK) lost to Martin Foldager (DK).
In an interview before the championship flight began, Kenji Shimodaira, the president of the Japanese Backgammon League, participating in his sixth Nordic Open, expressed approval of the locale and of the Partouche-logoed boards with their black and white points and orange and red checkers. Shimodaira lost his first round match to Achim "Acepoint" Müller (DE).
Tage Mellgren (SE, living in Denmark), 17th on the WSOP rating list, lost to Maarten Howe (SE).
Events earlier on Friday included the Japan Open Qualifier, in which the final will be between Uli Koch (DE) and the winner of Martin Jensen (DK) versus either Carter Mattig (US) or Jan Jacobowitz (DE). Also, the World Championship/Cannes Qualifier, where Volker Sunnabend (DE) will be in the final.
