(Neil) my lack of experience with the newer Euro-players is a main reason I didn't vote in the Giant 32.
Me too. Backgammon in Europe has gotten a couple of shots in the arm lately from the Partouche Tour and the World Series of Backgammon -- lots of tournaments, big added prize money, and television coverage -- but the number of players crossing the Atlantic both ways to play is much less than it was a few years ago.
(Stick) no idea
Well ... April 07 Hildsberg wins the Paris Partouche Open, July 07 Hildsberg loses the Riviera (Cannes) final to Lylloff after beating Sonnabend, Decarbon, Falafel, Sequeira, Michihito, Todd; Sept. 07 Hildsberg wins the Partouche Grand Finale (worth €60,000), beating Morten Holm, Manouck, Sonnabend, and Sequeira; Oct. 07 Hildsberg wins the 10th Austrian Backgammon Open (35)
... might give one some idea!
Not to mention: June 07 Hildsberg loses in the first round in Monte Carlo ;)
In the 2004 Abu Dabhi 25-point final, Arild Idsøe outplayed Andreas Humke, Gnubg Snowie equivalent 3.6 to 4.2.
