Why is DMP play so important?

Surprised that this one isn't out there yet.
When you make a small error at -11, -11, you lose maybe 0.05% MWC. When you make that same error at DMP, you lose 1% MWC.
If you make more errors at DMP than you do at -11, -11, you lose disproportionately more matches. Likewise, if you make less errors at DMP than you do at -11, -11, you win disproportionately more matches.
Not to say that good DMP play can compensate for bad backgammon skill, but if people are just vastly overlooking near-end match scores (DMP, GG, GS), you're just losing huge chunks of equity in match play IMO.
