Aside from the seeding problem, the Calcutta as a concept seems to be fading in importance. Players would rather sleep in than listen to three or four gamblers bid. The tournament rake is rarely big enough to justify the time it takes. And the sleepers miss important announcements.

So... No Calcutta at the Wisconsin State Backgammon Championships this year! Just a few announcements, followed by actual backgammon play! Aug 14-16.
