In the first position, you do not need to close out, just a tempo to escape your back checkers.

In the second position, you have cube access, so at some point when you are turning the game around, you will recube, either cashing or playing on for higher stakes while you are favorite. This cube ownership value allows you to take with less than 25% (assuming no gammons).
