There is a very simple rule of thumb to help with bearing in and bearing off problems. From this position it is obvious that at the most you will only be taking off to checkers. There is the knee-jerk 6/off(2) leaving no points doubled up. The more subtle 6/off 3/off leaves the oppurtunity to double up but do you play from the five point or the four point? No deep thought required with the knowledge.

Some time ago Mochy posted a complicated thingy on such matters which drew plenty of interest. As was my want I posted my simple rules. Mochy felt it necessary to explain to me the errors of my way but at the same time moved the goalposts. I pointed this out to him but he never replied.

I am sad person and find pleasure in playing against XG in such matters. I have never been found wanting.

Last night I watched Mochy's twitch.tv offering, it was certainly more entertaining than the box. I was inspired to play a couple of humans to PR 2.15 and 1.6 respectively. Only 2 pointers but I reckon I'm getting the hang of things.
