Anticipation -- help or hindrance?

So, is my solution to avoid anticipation? Or should I do a better job anticipating? Or simply keep my eyes open even after I get the roll I was hoping for?
Do a better job anticipating IMO. If you're praying for a 36 to hit two and then when you get it you're not sure whether you want to hit two or not at all, well, you shouldn't have been praying for the 36 to begin with. I guess you can take a superjoker like double 4's and note that you have 4 different ways to play it and any one of them is still a superjoker, but you should note that rather than decide on a play in advance.
I believe I already know one answer to the original question, but it's more work than 99.9% of backgammon players are willing to do. Collect a bunch of tactical positions. Positions where you missed the best move the first time around are good. You need a lot of them. Then go through them, one by one. Rinse, repeat. Keep doing it until you can identify the best move with a high degree of speed and accuracy (hence, why you need a lot of positions).
