What is your DMP PR?

In Response To: What is your DMP PR? (Stick)

From your posts I'm a little surprised at your dmp average. I would have thought it would be lower. If you don't mind me asking, what's your normal match/unlimited game PR?

When I was playing all the time it was just under 7. Now days it's closer to 8.

I often find that for a normal player it's not a bad correlation to take their unlimited PR, divide by 2, and that's around what they play at dmp.

Interesting. So a "World Class" player (PR ~5) would be below 2.5 PR for DMP. I've got some work to do!

Make sure when analyzing with XG that you force all random bear in/bear off plays to at least XGR+. If you don't do this you will be kicked in the shins maliciously for .010 errors give or take and if you're playing dmp purely for PR this can have a fairly big effect. Personally I also wipe clean any opening move or reply I have a solid foundation for knowing it's not really an error. For example, against XG with an opening 64 I run but against any human I split. Against XG after 31P-33 I will make the ahead in the rollout play of 18(2) but against a human I'd be more likely to stay back and play your typical 21(2) 10(2). Etc...

Good to know. I normally play a match in "Free Mode," then "Review" and look at my "Errors" which are currently set to 0.020. I figure with a PR above 5.0, the quickest way to lower it is to stop making blunders and large errors rather than pay too much attention to the smaller stuff. However, after reading your comment I took a look at some of my opening play. For example, I've been opening with 43D instead of 43Z. The rollouts say there is only a .001 difference, but that one move starts you off with a .083 PR. I imagine I'm making all kinds of small errors in the openings which bump up my PR.

Now, this is pretty cheap but since it's how XG figures everyone's dmp PR it's fair ... make sure to play out games where you've already won/lost the game. XG often gives you credit for decisions in the end game where it shouldn't.

I don't always finish out games to the end, because I noticed XG lowers my PR on some plays where the game is gin and I'm just shuffling checkers in the outfield. I don't understand why it's programmed to do that, since my equity is -1 no matter what play I pick. It seems like cheating to artificially lower my PR in this way.

But all that aside, the truth is I'm a very inconsistent player. I have a lot of health and medication-related issues that mess with my focus, concentration, and sleep patterns. Not an excuse; we play the dice we roll. My point is I can play a bunch of 1pt-ers with low PR and then turn around and play several games with PRs close to 30. It's hard to keep your average down when you are that erratic. Also, I get into some game types that I still don't understand well and make a bunch of anti-thematic blunders. I have a lot of trouble with emerging backgames, for example -- haven't sorted out when to slot the front/back of the prime, when to hit additional checkers, etc. Those games tend to come up more in DMP than in other games. As I say, I have a lot of work to do.
