there are 2 main positional elements of this position: blue's mid is thin and his 6 is heavy. Hitting keeps him from making another board point (or bar point). making the 5 (while usually a no brainer) here results in little net gain (ie. white will just add another point in his board and continue to out position us) worse yet is he'll probably unstack his 6 point in doing so. after the hit, duplication of 5s is big. so, the only arrow we have in our bow is to try to race, as blue is already positionally better off both offensively and defensively.
