In Response To: my dropbox folder/s (RobertFontaine)

I think it would be illegal to charge for public domain content and I haven't seen any site that charges for access to these matches.

I upload all the matches that I come across and it is all available on my server in the "Public archive" section. All you need is a free registration and you have access to these.

I don't know so many other databases around other than the http://itikawa.com/kifdb/herodb.cgi?table=bg which is a great source of content! Earlier Bruce Farquhar provided a link to his archive and I have updated my database with matches from the most recent years (2008->).

If you want to take it one step further on my backgammon database you can opt in for having your own private database where you can upload all your private matches. With this you can search for your biggest mistakes and try to reevaluate your reasoning in these positions to improve your play.

You could also create your private challenges based on your own errors and then try to play through those (at intervals) and see if you still make the same mistakes or if you have improved.

I was thinking about making this easier by having the server automatically generate challenges for you which would start with picking 10 positions with the biggest equity loss (of your own errors) in each position type. Once you are able to score say 8/10 or better in a challenge it will generate another one which uses the 10 next positions with a lower equity loss. I haven't started implementing something like this but it sounds straightforward to do. I guess I'll call it "Training ground" and hopefully be able to restrain myself and not call it "How low can you go?"...

This would all require your private database and since I am not google I can't provide everyone with 5GB of free disk space so you would have to pay for having your private database. I don't think that is too unreasonable.

In other news: There is some fierce competition for the coveted "Backgammon Studio Champions" titles but it looks like Hall is taking over most of them so it looks like he is the best backgammon player around!

Backgammon studio

Give it a try! :-)
