Neil's point, that your opponent will not play right, is correct of course. But you might not play right either.

So a factor that matters to me more than whether it is a .009 pass or take is the skill difference. The more I am better than my opponent the less I want to take a chance that luck will affect the game, so I do not want to pass and take the chance that he will roll a 3-1 or another excellent opening roll. I would rather start a game close to even, especially one that could turn complicated quickly if there is hitting and splitting going on, than start over.

Conversely, if I am playing Neil, or Mochy or any top giant, I would like to roll over and hope for some luck.

Naturally, XG cannot measure the affect of skill differences not knowing what the skill differences are or where they are, so there is no way to "prove" this approach other than with logic and experience.

My experience tells me that worse players beat me more often because they get lucky, and I beat better players more often when I get lucky.
