Even though it did not occur often there are a lot of strategic consequences from that rule.

One probably unintended one is that the box and captain can both play for that to happen and collect 6 points if it occurs for them while only losing one if it happens to opponent.

Being on the bar against a single point board is worth a 6th of a point. That is surely enough to swing many opening plays. For example slotting with 51 is a .02 error but the immediate sing of hit and dance is worth about .05.

Being the partner is a bad place to be with this rule. Is it optional or required to accept?

Staying in the box has an added advantage. If you are in the box you gain on average 2.5 points per occurrence since you win 6 and pay 1. If it happens once per ten games that is an extra .25 points per game. How many games did you play for it to happen 4 times?
