Well, in short I like more rollouts done in sgf file than as export in HTML file because I can that extent same rollout for more trials for all candidate moves or only best two for example. If you have rollouts in HTML you can get rollout results with 0.025 STD for example which is practicaly waste of time because there is no way that you can extend it.
gnubg2ply is fine except in classic holding game (where 3ply is better) and in bear off without contact where can realy made some silly plays. Personaly I like more 4ply than 2ply and think it is closer to rollouts than 2ply and always done 4ply analyze for my errors. Also 2ply evalute for cube is in many cases not trustable.
Personaly I think that one can't start to play below 4.5 without strong 2/2 ply rollouts. 2ply is fine but when one reach certain level of play can't improve his play more with this tool. This is more important part of this story.
Second, is that I realy like effect when rollouts decrease my error rate from 2ply analyze. At first I just like lower number in ER and second, it is really good feeling when rollout change 2ply evaluation (okay this part is also possible with HTML export).
And last in sgf files is possible to insert comments or send to your opponent this file so he can make rollouts for his moves.
Anyway your method is fine and it could be used to rollout many positions from some book or other indenpendent positions but for matches I think we should ask gnubg developers to include possibility to do batch rollouts inside matches like Snowie can.
