Unfortunately, both of you, Raccoon and Mislav, are misreading my post. I don't claim that rollouts are not necessary. I don't doubt that rollouts are a good tool for improvement of your skill and rollouts are much more trustworthy than a 2-ply evaluation.
Especially for cubeaction a rollout is absolutely necessary.

Mislav claims that you can not be a snowie 4.5 player or better without using 2ply/2ply (checkerplay, cubeaction) as a learning tool. And exactly this claim is what I strongly disagree, therefore I wrote:
We have very fast computers, that can deliver 2-ply rollouts in a reasonable time only for 2 or 3 years now. Do you think there had been no 4.5, 3.5 or 3.0 players in 2005, 2003 or 2002?
Obviously, there had been players in 1999 or 2000 that played below snowie 4.0 error rate, and because of the lack of CPU power none of them used 2ply/2ply GNUBG or 3ply/3ply Snowie rollouts as a learning tool. Right?
For sure, those players used rollouts as a learning tool. But not at those strong and time consuming settings!
