Yet another question on clocks and slow play

I think the organizers got it right at last yr's BG Million in the Bahamas -- 2.5 min/point plus 15 (or maybe it was 17) seconds per move. If I remember correctly, there were no matches lost due to time and no one I talked to was even close to being disqualified.
In the SJ finals in LV yesterday it was 2 min/point plus 12 seconds per move. We (Nack Ballard & I) both had around 8 min remaining when the match ended but we both played pretty quickly so a real slow player would have to either speed up their play in a big way or frequently be under lots of time pressure with these 2/12 rules. Actually, Nack spent around 7 min on a crucial play in the Crawford game or else he would have finished with about 15 minutes left on his clock. He's a much faster pip-counter than I and that's what counted for most of the difference in time left between us.
I don't think we should penalize the slightly slower than average players - just the drastically slow ones and that's why I favor the Bahamas time rules.
