To be honest, I routinely see people miss cubes in these positions. I dont know why - perhaps because on the face of it, it doesnt seem super threatening. One thing that playing with XG has trained me to do (good or bad) is to recognize almost any situation where with the right rolls, things can go very quickly to "great". This is one of those positions. It isnt so far fetched to see a hit-fan or half fan sequence, and suddenly the take is far from clear.

So, cubing earlier rather than later allows for you to take advantage of both the position, and the plays.

I recall a match with David Presser where he correctly cubed me with a 1pt board (I dont recall if I was even on the roof), and because of his threats, he made a very very fast aggressive series of plays that had me almost blown out. Take nothing for granted. Allow yourself to have opportunities to win gammons.
